Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Costing Analyst within the Finance Department. The job will support the Costing function in gathering information and data contributing to the development and production of the patient level costing dataset. This will involve the maintenance and ongoing development of robust systems and processes to provide assurance with regards to contract performance including analysis of complex quantitative and qualitative data.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to provide a key role within the Finance Department, as part of the Costing team, improving the information available to the Trust to make decisions. Responsible for supporting the management, development, and continual improvement of the Trust's Costing system and to ensure the output produced is robust and satisfies all internal and external reporting requirements.
The post holder will ensure that all work is completed, either directly or by staff under their supervision, in line with both local & national timetables and the Trust's Standing Financial Orders and Instructions.

Service Line Reporting
- To be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of information and data gathered for SLR. This will be achieved by applying a detailed technical knowledge of the Trusts financial coding system and a good understanding of the operational application of the coding system.
- To liaise with Divisional Accountants and Divisional Analysts to gather information and data contributing to the development and production of SLR.
- To be responsible for the collation of data into formats compatible with the Costing System and ensure the data is accurately recorded into the Costing System.
- To assist the Cost & SLR Accountant in the production of accurate Service Line Management information.
- To produce timely and accurate financial performance reports covering quarterly, and annual returns for costing, which will be both internal and external in nature.
- To deal with associated queries in a timely manner and contribute to building effective working relationships
- To have an understanding of the relationship between budgets and Service Line Management
National Cost Collection
- To assist in the collation and annual production of the Trusts National Cost Collection return, ensuring consistent and accurate interpretation of the NHS costing manual.
- To assist in interpreting the National Cost Collection guidance and results
Other
- Provide input into the development and maintenance of operational procedures, implement policy for own work area. Prepare, review and update relevant procedure notes and make recommendations to improve working practices.
