Job summary

We are currently seeking a Directorate Manager to join the Division of Surgery, Anaesthetics and Critical Care at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT).

This role is pivotal to the delivery of high quality care at ELHT and is a rare opportunity for an inclusive and compassionate leader to shape the future design of our services and improve patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Senior Management Team to provide operational, staffing and budget management.

The post holder will be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day running of a number of specified services. This includes the delivery of operational performance targets (finance, activity, workforce and quality/safety) and the achievement of service objectives and standards relevant to the service area.

The post holder will support the clinical leadership of the Directorates to deliver a range of outcomes, ensuring that fundamental and underlying activities to organisational success are achieved.

The Division of Surgery, Anaesthetics and Critical Care is a progressive and innovative Division comprising the departments of General Surgery, Vascular, Colorectal, HPB, Breast, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ear Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Urology, Maxillo Facial Surgery, Dermatology, Emergency General Surgery, Theatres, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Oncology and Cancer Management.

We provide a full range of assessment and treatment services and boast one of the most comprehensive programmes of robot assisted surgery in the region, with leading surgeons treating Head and Neck, Urological and Colorectal conditions.

We have a team of highly trained, dedicated and experienced staff who operate across all hospital sites. The Division is committed to providing high levels of training and education and is also active in developing multidisciplinary team working and research development.

  • With the Directorate Triad, lead the Directorate to deliver on the Trusts performance agenda including access, finance, activity, workforce and quality/safety, access and clinical governance

  • Ensure effective leadership and line management arrangements are in place for all staff within the service area
  • Represent the Trust in external forums as appropriate to the role.
  • Deputise for the Divisional Director of Operations or the Deputy Divisional Director of Operations, if required. Act as a positive role model in order to promote a professional and well-motivated workforce
  • Facilitate regular communications with all members of the team to ensure all staff are aware of service issues and priorities so that they have the opportunity to input ideas and suggestions
