Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the Legal Services Department and with colleagues across the Trust to manage clinical and non-clinical claims from receipt to settlement. In addition the post holder will assist in the administration of Inquests, and attend Inquests on behalf of the Trust, as well as other ad hoc legal matters.

Provide assistance and support to the Head of Legal Services to ensure that contentious inquests and claims (including employer's liability, public liability and clinical negligence) are managed effectively

The post holder will identify through effective claims management any changes to services that need to be made to improve and sustain a positive experience for patients, carers and staff.In all of the above the post holder will liaise with staff at all levels within the Trust and with external bodies, organisations and groups and will be expected to contribute to training for Trust staff on claims management and Inquests.

Main duties of the job

To assist the Head of Legal Services in the administration and management of clinical negligence claims.

Maintain accurate and accessible files of all cases/claims.Maintain accurate and up to date information on the DATIX Database and departmental reports. Escalating any delays immediately to the Head of Legal Services.

Ensuring that the Case Management System is updated and reports are obtained within the timescales specified. Escalating any delays immediately to the Head of Legal Services.

To perform any other duties of a similar nature which may be relevant to the post, and which may arise according to the needs of the service, including the administration of inhouse training events.

Maintain Confidentiality and GDPR Compliance.

Experience

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or evidence of equivalent professional qualification / or equivalent experience
  • Able to effectively communicate highly complex information both verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to analyse and interpret medical records, reports from clinicians.
  • Ability to liaise compassionately with family in an inquest setting
  • Computer literacy, including ability to analyse data, use databases, and write and present reports.
  • Good organisational and time management skills that demonstrate the optimal use of resources
  • Able to deal with an unpredictable workload, ensuring key priorities and deadlines are met through effective time A/I 11 management
  • Significant experience of working with a wide range of professionals.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Civil Procedure Rules and Pre action Protocols for the resolution of legal claims
  • Knowledge and experience of the Coroner's Act

  • Previous experience of paralegal in clinical negligence field
