Senior Midwife – Lead for Infant Feeding

Job summary

Through strong clinical leadership and visibility, the post holder will lead theinfant feedingservice team in developing and improving the infant feeding service provided at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT).

The post holderis required towork in,and provide care in,all areas within the Maternity Services andparticipatein future service developments,providingmidwiferycare in line withNational and local recommendations.

The post holderis responsible forthe effective management of staff within the clinical area andhas clinical responsibility for women during pregnancy, labour andpostnatally.

The post holder will provide specialist services for complex breastfeeding problems, including leading the existingfrenotomyservice.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage the clinical area of responsibility, leadingoninfant feeding.

  • Lead and support a tailored educationprogrammein line with national and local agendas and recommendations.

  • Manage and lead a team of registeredand non-registeredstaff to support the Trust feeding agenda, ensuring management of staff is in line withTrust guidance.

  • Assessthe full range of care needs and develop,implementand evaluateprogrammesof care in the antenatal,intrapartumand postnatal period for women and their babieswith a focus on infant feeding.

  • Work autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice.

  • Actas a mentor formidwives and other staff providing leadership within the practice environmentwith a focus on infant feeding.

  • Providea full range of Health Education and social care advice to women in the hospital setting.

  • Promotecommitment to the Trust.
