Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Primary Care Learning Environment Lead

The closing date is 07 April 2026

Job summary

The Primary Care Learning Environment Educator role will work at place, across the Thames Valley, encouraging the development of quality workplace experiences for pre-registration learners within Primary Care settings and nurses new to Primary Care. This role is provided through the Buckinghamshire Health and Social Care Academy, a non-profit partnership organisation and is hosted by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The purpose of the role is to facilitate high standards of clinical practice in General Practice through the establishment and delivery of structured support to student nursing associates and other relevant learners. A key objective is to promote General Practice as an attractive setting for both nurses and nursing associates, to develop new pathways to enable entry into the specialism. The post holder will facilitate the development of networks to support, student nursing associates and registered nursing associates and nurses to develop a community of practice to reduce isolation and vulnerability of their roles.

Main duties of the job

You should be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with post-registration experience in General Practice, ideally with experience as a clinical educator or a good understanding of pre-registration nurse education. The role will:

  • Support the facilitation of external placements for student nursing associates. To utilise learning during placements and drive improvements to student experience, increase engagement and improve retention.
  • Work with colleagues to develop resources for primary care employers and non-registered staff supported by a clear engagement plan. Resources should also guide non-registered staff on their career pathway.
  • Support registered nurses and nursing associates new to the specialism in their development and smooth transition into General Practice and ongoing development.

The role is available on a fixed-term 12 month contract and will involve hybrid working (predominantly home working with occasional travel across the Thames Valley as required).

This role supports excellence in General Practice nursing by developing clear pathways for nurses and Nursing Associates, including apprenticeships, and strengthening networks that reduce isolation, build a community of practice and work with universities and placement providers.

Using feedback to enhance student experience and workforce planning, the post-holder will also help create resources for primary care employers and nonregistered staff, including guidance on career pathways.
