Electrical Engineering Manager

Job summary

To manage and support the provision and maintenance of NHS Estates buildings, electrical plant equipment and services to ensure a safe and suitable environment for the care of patients, visitors and staff.

Provide technical and specialist advice to managers and staff in the area of electrical systems and electrical disciplines.

To specify and manage all electrical systems contracts across multiple sites.

Travel between Trust sites.

To provide evidence based efficient, cost effective and robust electrical engineering contracts to ensure full compliance with statutory instruments, Department of Healthguidance and industry best practice.

To ensure all Hospital electrical engineering systems are maintained in a safe condition and are fit for purpose.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring that the operation and maintenance of Estates services, buildings and building services installations comply with health service requirements and statutory instruments.
  • Directing, encouraging and motivating contractors to achieve financial and key performance targets.
  • Provide long term maintenance planning, short term project planning and emergency/contingency planning for critical services.
  • To co-ordinate and liaise with other staff within the Estates Directorate ensuring efficiency in service provision.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Degree in estates engineering or related field OR equivalent experience
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Working towards professional membership (e.g. IWFM, CIOB, IHEEM)
  • Understanding of procurement and contract management principles
  • Authorised Person (AP) training in Low Voltage
  • Authorised Person (AP) training in High Voltage

Desirable

  • Master's degree in relevant subject
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
  • Confined space training
  • Risk assessment training
  • Manual handling training
  • Authorised Person (AP) training in Lifts
  • Fire training
  • Willing/able to undertake the above courses

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Completion of a structured training program in engineering discipline for a minimum period of five years or Site experience with appropriate trade qualifications
  • Previous experience of managing engineering building services, operational engineering maintenance and repair services
  • Experience delivering small works or minor capital projects in an Estates/FM environment.
  • Full project lifecycle management: scope, programme, delivery, handover
  • Contractor and supplier performance management
  • Budget and cost control for multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience of stakeholder liaison in live clinical or operational environments
  • Incident investigation and reporting experience

  • NHS or healthcare estates experience
