Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) have a new post available for a Specialty Doctor in Colorectal Surgery for 6 months with the potential to be extended for a further 6 months.This post is available to start from January 2026. This post will be based across two hospital sites, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury & Wycombe Hospital, High Wycombe. The Colorectal Unit and the Department of General Surgery at BHT have a long history of employing high calibre specialist medical staff in a variety of roles to help deliver ongoing continuous care to the patients of Buckinghamshire. These have previously consisted of Associate Specialist, Staff Grade and Trust Grade Registrars at different levels of expertise and in different types of roles, and they have also evolved over time.

Currently we have an opportunity for 1 full-time Specialty Doctor roles to continue providing specialist colorectal and general surgery services within the Colorectal Unit and in the Department of General Surgery.

The role encompasses different specialist colorectal skill-sets and provide important services to colorectal patients.ALL applicants MUST hold a FULL GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.We anticipate this to be a popular post and the job advert may close earlier than the stated closing date. Main duties of the job

The Colorectal Unit in Buckinghamshire Healthcare consists of five full time colorectal surgeons , providing all aspects of elective colorectal specialisms, including colorectal and anal cancer surgery, with a very high proportion of these being performed laparoscopically, and since 2022 also robotically. Our colorectal cancer surgeons are amongst the highest volume surgeons in NBOCA, with excellent outcomes. We are one of the highest volume IBD DGHs in England, working closely with our Gastroenterologists in a well-functioning IBD MDT. Further services include colorectal Pelvic Floor Surgery (linked to St Marks Hospital Pelvic Floor MDT), surgery for Spinal Cord Injury patients on the National Spinal Injuries Unit, and a multi-speciality Complex Abdominal Wall Repair and Perineal Hernia MDT, alongside our Plastic Surgery Department. TAMIS for large rectal polyps and early rectal cancer is also performed.
