Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Clinical Psychologist

The closing date is 14 July 2025

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen in our Trust for a 0.8 wte 8a Clinical Psychologist to work on the Level 2b Buckinghamshire Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (BNRU) based at Amersham Hospital.

BNRU is an exciting and dynamic place to work within a collaborative and supportive multidisciplinary team caring for patients with complex needs. We accept a range of diagnoses from stroke and traumatic brain injury to MS, GBS and FND. We provide post-acute neuro rehabilitation for patients with a variety of needs: physical, cognitive, emotional and social and as a psychology team we are involved throughout a patient's journey, supporting them, their family and the wider team.

More widely, you would be part of the thriving BHT Psychological Services team. A small part of your role will be to work with this team to help the development of understanding of neurological problems across the wider Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide psychological assessment and interventions to the 17 patients on the unit. This includes psychological assessment and management of mood, neuropsychological cognitive screening and assessment and cognitive rehabilitation. As part of a collaborative MDT, the applicant will integrate into a wider team and work jointly with a number of other health professionals. Alongside this there will be elements of management in supervising the assistant psychologist and monitoring and developing different processes within the team, for example goal planning.

This role would suit an applicant who has good experience of working with patients with neurological conditions, and who is interested in developing skills in working with patients with complex cognitive and psychological needs within an inpatient setting. We would prefer applicants with previous qualified experience in this area, although we would consider less experienced applicants if they can demonstrate that they have relevant experience of working in this area.

The applicant will be confident in working with patients with a range of difficulties, physical, cognitive and communication, and be able to demonstrate ability in considering their needs and implementing necessary treatment plans. They will be comfortable in working within an MDT, able to voice psychological opinions and viewpoints while listening to others and working together to achieve the best outcome for the patient.
