Job summary

The Aseptic Unit Manager will;

  • Manage, develop and deliver a high quality modern, patient centred and cost-effective pharmacy aseptic services. This will be through the co-ordination and supervision of pharmacists, technical staff and support workers working in the aseptic units or through the procurement of aseptic products from external suppliers.
  • Ensure all legal and departmental practices including Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP (orange guide), COSHH and lifting and handling regulations and all Trust policies and procedures are followed through the maintenance of appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Be expected to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical services, and to promote the highest standards of professional practice, whilst observing at all times the "Statement upon Matters of Professional Conduct" issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Will operate under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist or delegate

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role will be the;

  • management of two unlicensed aseptic units
  • day to day supervision and support of pharmacy staff working in this technical area
  • close liaison with nursing staff and Lead Advanced Pharmacist for cancer to plan the timely delivery of chemotherapy to the day case and in-patients and other aseptic products across the Trust.
  • close liaison with Quality Assurance Department, Chief technician, Assistant Director of Pharmacy - Patient Services to ensure the safe and efficient running of the service
  • working as an apprenticeship workplace training supervisor & expert witness for pharmacy staff on these training programmes and providing support to these students and training other staff to undertake this role.

  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician/ PIPC
  • NVQ Level 3 for Pharmaceutical Sciences/BTEC, City & Guilds equivalent/Apprenticeship (or equivalent).
  • Pre/In Process Checker

Desirable

  • First line management training or qualification
  • GCP training or willing to undertake
  • Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician assessor course/ Workplace Training Supervisor

Experience

Essential

  • Hospital Pharmacy Experience
  • Experience of delivering a pharmacy aseptic service
  • Experience of line managing people and HR policies.
  • Experience of day-day supervision and training of staff
  • Experience of change management.

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

  • The ability to prioritise and manage own workload and that of the team.
  • Able to write and implement procedures.
  • IT literate.
  • Able to work as a team-leader.
