Job summary

Due to the reconfiguration of the emergency surgical floor, the opportunity has arisen for for candidates who are looking to step into healthcare for the first time, for those who are already in healthcare and want to work in a different speciality or want to work for an NHS Trust.

Healthcare Support Workersplay a crucial role in all aspects of caredeliveryforourpatients.

You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals who you will learn from on the job, we provide training to ensure you have the skills for the role and offer development opportunities to realise your career potential. You will be enrolled onto a healthcare support worker induction programme held each month, ensuring you feel supported as you take the first steps into your new career.

Main duties of the job

Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriatelyAssist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.Make unoccupied beds and occupied beds.Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as requiredWash/bathe patients in bed and in the bathroom.Care of hands and feet of patients in bed.Observe patients' skin and report any red marks or blemishes to nursing staff in charge.Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy

Carry out routine ward procedure for bagging of patients' soiled clothing and ensurerelatives are made aware of need to take away and launder.Escort patients to the toilet.

Report faulty equipment in need of repairAssist with unpacking and checking of stores as requiredReport when ward stock is low.Clean and tidy lockers and cupboards.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Functional Skills in English and Maths, (Level1 or equivalent) at interview assessment, or GCSE A to G

Desirable

  • National Care Certificate
  • Level 2 or Level 3 In Health and Social Care Subject (or willingness to work towards)

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Understands nature of the HCSW role and responsibilities

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a health care environment
  • Evidence of working as a member of a team
  • Experience in a customer focused environment

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely with patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Courteous with patients and others both internal and external
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
