Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified HCAs to join out team as Senior Healthcare Assistant. Our department is extremely busy and we are extending our nursing team.

Stoke Mandeville Hospital Emergency Department are looking for innovative, hardworking and dedicated staff to come and join our strong nursing team. We now have band 3 vacancies available and we are looking for dynamic staff to help deliver an excellent service to our patients, and to maintain our outstanding care which was determined by our latest CQC report.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in the preparation of patient for treatment, interventions or procedures in the Emergency Department.
  • Make unoccupied beds and occupied beds.
  • Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as required.
  • Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy.
  • Assist with preparing the Emergency Department for procedures/interventions and clearing up the environment after the procedures/interventions are completed.
  • Assist in the general cleanliness and tidiness of the unit including clinical rooms, assessment areas, sluice and storerooms.
  • Chaperone as per chaperone policy

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Level 2 in both Literacy and numeracy Skills
  • Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Health and Social Care
  • Ability to undertake additional training to acquire the skills appropriate for development in the post (aptitude and physical requirements)

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential

  • Proficient in Clinical record skills
  • physically able to bear long periods in PPE
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to listen, understand and carry out complex instructions
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Awareness of the needs of patients within Emergency Care and relevant medical/ procedural terminology
  • Be proficient in clinical record keeping and documentation
  • Experience of assisting in Emergency Care procedures
  • Physically able to stand for long periods of time, wear full PPE and undertake manual dexterity and assist with Manual Handling.

  • Previous experience of working within Emergency Department t in clinical role
