We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to undergo a 2-year apprenticeship and once completed become a registered Pharmacy Technician.

This is a training role which provides 30 hours on-the-job training and 7.5 hours off-the-job training per week in order to assist you to complete your course.

The post is full time and will involve the candidates rotating through specialist sections of the pharmacy department such as Inpatient dispensaries at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, High Wycombe Hospital, Procurement & Distribution and Medicines Optimisation/Wards.

You will undertake and complete the BTEC level 3 in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, attending set virtual college classes, developing a work-based e-portfolio, undertaking work-based assessments, and completing assignments within set timescales to a competent standard, alongside working in our busy pharmacy department.

You will be supported throughout the training period with regular reviews and appraisals with their Education Supervisor & college tutors.

On completion of this qualification will enable you to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) at the end of your training placement.

Main duties of the job

  • To be organised and proactively seek opportunities for learning.
  • Use effective forms of communication with other members of the pharmacy team, medical, nursing, and other staff in the best interests of the patient.
  • To participate in the daily stock check routine, identify and resolve stock issues, escalating where appropriate in line with stock management procedures.
  • To dispose of medicines appropriately
  • To participate in the receipt of prescriptions and collection of prescriptions, including handling prescription payment charges.
  • To replenish Emergency Medicines Cupboard as per the SOP
  • To complete accurate assessments for the Transcription of Inpatient Supplies and Drugs for Discharge
  • To undertake accurate Drug History and Medicines Reconciliation, communicating directly with patients at a ward level
  • To work in a busy pharmacy and hospital environment and be able to balance time dedicated to the completion of the apprenticeship and associated studies
