Job summary

We are looking to recruit a band 3 maternity care assistant who is motivated and enthusiastic about providing high quality care to our patients. You will be working within a supportive multi-disciplinary team with to provide care within our specialist safeguarding and mental health team.

You will work closely with our specialist midwives as well as social workers and unit staff to ensure our patients are well supported throughout the antenatal, labour and postnatal period.

You will work in both community and hospital settings covering all of Buckinghamshire Healthcare areas. This includes visiting people in their home environment, in our linked hospitals and in family centres.

As a member of our team, you will be professional, safe, and compassionate for women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive, and empowering.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary specialist maternity care team, caring for women and babies within the locality with competence, compassion, and respect, mindful always of issues of consent and principles of equality and diversity.
  • To work under the guidance and direction of midwives, undertaking delegated tasks once trained and declared competent and aware at all times of the responsibilities and limitations of the specialist MSW role.
  • To support mother's and families with practical support around housing, collecting baby equipment and benefits.
  • To be at all times vigilant and alert to the appearance and behaviour of mothers and babies, reporting back to a midwife any deviations from normal or other causes for concern regarding physical, mental/emotional and social well-being.
  • To ensure that client goodwill and confidence in the Trust is maintained at all times by carrying out duties in a confident, courteous and sympathetic manner.
  • Provide wellbeing support through listening, promotion of good mental health and referring to midwives any identified concerns.

  • GCSE Grade C English Language or equivalent

  • NVQ levels 1 and 2

Experience

  • Recent experience within the NHS or similar Healthcare environment.

  • Evidence of working with, or interest in perinatal mental health
