Job summary

The Buckinghamshire Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic therapist to continue their career in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. You will be a key member of our acute speech and language therapy service, working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

This post offers the opportunity to develop competencies in acute care. The post holder will work collaboratively with other members of the team and support the Clinical Lead SLT with service delivery and innovation.

Post graduate dysphagia qualification is essential to this post and the post holder will be supported to develop their dysphagia competencies, including instrumental assessment of swallowing (VF and FEES).

You would be required to work at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

This post offers the opportunity to develop acute clinical skills and the post holder will be actively involved in clinical governance of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced therapist, working within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service provided by Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. They will provide speech and language therapy to inpatients, being accountable for their own actions and recognising their own professional boundaries and competencies. The post holder will work under the guidance of the Clinical Lead SL T and Highly Specialist SLTs to provide efficient, high quality care.

As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, the post holder will be independent in completing assessment, treatment and management of people with speech, language and swallowing difficulties and will demonstrate a high level of clinical reasoning / diagnostic skills. The post holder will work with the Acute SLT team contributing to the development of service initiatives and organisational objectives. They will continue to develop post graduate competencies in dysphagia and communication management, and will be supported to develop Videofluoroscopy, FEES and Tracheostomy competencies.

Multi-disciplinary working is key to this post with contribution to ward meetings and MDT working, providing advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, patients, carers, and others. The post holder will support junior staff and will support the provision of student placements as a clinical educator.
