An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior nurse with extensive experience in intensive care nursing to champion the future provision of critical care at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. We are looking for a highly motivated senior nurse with a proven track record in team building and compassionate leadership to join and lead our intensive care team.
Our combined Intensive Care / High Dependency Units have 12 beds at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, which admits medicine/ surgical/ burns/ spinal/ trauma patients, and a 6 bedded unit at Wycombe Hospital caring for medicine/ cardiology/ stroke and surgical patients. The teams work cross-site and you will be responsible for the continued growth and development of the team.
You will have the opportunity to develop practice and be expected to provide ongoing support to both your senior and junior colleagues across both units.You must have evidence of strong leadership in intensive care nursing with a minimum of 2 years' experience as an ICU Band 7 or above. The post requires expert knowledge in Intensive Care nursing which must be demonstrated in a post registration qualification.

Main duties of the job
- Provide highly visible, and accessible advice and support to the staff in your services on issues relating to safe and compassionate nursing and midwifery care, spending a minimum of 50% of the working time in the allocated clinical area - this will be supernumerary activity focused on (for example) reviewing standards of care, shadowing and mentoring staff, reviewing documentation, and speaking with patients and their relatives to understand their experience of the care given.
- Provide expert clinical leadership and advice to your services. For example, by working with teams or individuals and demonstrating best practice in care delivery in order observe and improve staff performance, always with the aim of delivering sustained improvements in the care of patients and their families.
- Take responsibility for ensuring quality assurance activities are delivered within your services, for example personally undertaking quality rounds, participating in peer reviews and convening/attending relevant service meetings.
- Act to ensure all areas under your responsibility are well-maintained, clean and safe. Work in conjunction with the Infection Prevention and Control Team to draw up cleaning contracts and monitor compliance.
