Job summary

This post works within the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Team, providing counselling/CBT to adult colleagues employed by Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust and other contracts.

The role involves providing initial triage, including supportive conversations and risk assessments, and offering appropriate short-term counselling/CBT or referral on to more appropriate services, communicating outcomes and suggestions for alternative care as appropriate to the OHW Team. The post holder is required to work autonomously within professional and service guidelines and to exercise responsibility for governance of their counselling practice.

There will also be a training element to support managers with stress management workshops, for example.

Main duties of the job

Main Clinical responsibilities

Assess clients for suitability for Counselling / Therapy, adhering to the department referral protocols and refer clients on to the relevant alternative service where appropriate

Formulate, implement, and evaluate therapy / therapy programmes for clients.

Conduct ward/dept Drop-ins to support colleagues in their place of work including ad hoc visits to areas needing support

Make proactive Wellbeing calls and respond to calls/emails to provide initial wellbeing support and signpost and/or triage appropriately.

Support wellbeing events e.g. stands at open days, campaign drop ins, speaking to colleagues on the stand at the events to provide advice/support

Convene and attend multi-disciplinary meetings and lead meetings where appropriate.

Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

Deliver mental health/psycho-educative training packages. around various wellbeing topics including the USBR (Understanding Stress, Building Resilience) programme and the Wellbeing module of the Peak 1 management training

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Formal approved Qualification in CBT and/or counselling at diploma / Post Graduate Level
  • Evidence of Providing brief effective treatment to adults with a wide range of mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Experience in developing and delivering training / psycho-education
  • Minimum of 5 years post qualification
  • Experience of delivering CBT based interventions

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Hospital Trust, primary care setting, IAPT service, workplace or university counselling

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Understanding of risk assessments and their management within an employment setting
