Job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and organised Higher Level Support Worker to join our Pharmacy team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services within the Bucks Cataract Unit. This position requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional practice.

Individuals with no prior pharmacy experience will be considered, as full training will be provided.

This position requires the candidate to be committed to work towards (or have already achieved) a GPhC recognised qualification, GPhC recognised apprenticeship pathway, or a GPhC accredited training course following National Occupational Standard. Full training and course funding to be organised by the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Be responsible for the top-up and put away service of stock medication for the Bucks Cataract Unit/Alcon Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
  • Be responsible for collecting prescriptions from the Bucks Cataract Unit/Alcon Unit, delivering them to the outpatient pharmacy at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, then collecting the dispensed eyedrops for the Bucks Cataract Unit/Alcon Unit.
  • Accurately cost out medications to patients who were seen in ophthalmic clinics on the Pharmacy JAC system.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork and maintain accurate records.
  • Follow all legal and departmental practices including Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Distribution Practice (GDP) The Green Guide, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, Lifting and Handling Regulations and all Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • Be expected to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical services, and to promote the highest standards of professional practice, whilst observing at all times the "Statement on Professional Conduct" issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Already hold or be committed to work towards achieving a GPhC recognised qualification, GPhC recognised apprenticeship pathway, or a GPhC accredited training course following National Occupational Standards. Full training and course funding to be organised by the Trust, registration onto a course must be within 3 months of the start of employment.
