Job summary

  • To always comply with any regulations issued by the Trust, especially those governing Health and Safety at work and to ensure that any defects which may affect safety at work are brought to the attention of the appropriate manager.
  • It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the Trust's environmental impact by recycling wherever possible, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use, minimising water usage and reporting faults promptly.
  • This job description reflects the present requirements and objectives of the post. As the duties of the post change and develop, the job description will be reviewed and will be subject to amendment, in consultation with the post holder.

Main duties of the job

  • Emergency lighting testing.
  • Water quality management planned and reactive maintenance e.g. taking water samples, checking water temperatures, recording results.
  • Boiler house and plant room duties e.g. water testing, steam plant checks.
  • Carry out basic electrical, mechanical and building works e.g. replacing lamps, repairing nurse call handsets, unblocking sinks, basic plumbing repairs, replacing ceiling tiles, simple joinery and decoration.
  • To assist craft persons of all trades in the repair and maintenance of hospital property and equipment.
  • Collection of data e.g. utility meter readings.
  • Water softener plant checks including salt deliveries to the areas
  • To assist in the cleanliness and safety of hospital equipment, machinery, tools, vehicles and areas.
  • To observe and abide by all safety rules and regulations taking appropriate consideration of other hospital staff, patients and visitors.
  • To ensure work is carried out in a professional manner.
  • To be a responsible team member who uses initiative and is flexible to the needs of the clients.
  • To undertake training to learn new generic skills in order to fulfil the requirements of the department.
  • To understand working practices of the Property Services.
  • To become familiar with the operation of plant and equipment throughout the Trust.
  • To carry out other duties not listed here which fall within the post holder's skill set.
