Job summary
This is an exciting time to join the BHT family, as we embark upon plans for our new Wycombe Elective Surgical Centre (WESC), at the Wycombe Hospital site, and plan to develop the stoke site over the coming years. The role of Head of Operations and Deputy Care Group Director is a diverse, challenging and exhilarating post in equal measures, and for the right candidate could be a stepping stone to a more senior post in the future. We are seeking a proactive and self motivated senior leader to join the Surgery and Critical Care Group to lead on 2 dynamic workstreams (although not an exhaustive list), day to day, with support from a proactive and motivated team:
- Day-to-day operational oversight and strategic running of the Wycombe Elective Surgical Centre over on the Wycombe site
- Surgical emergency flow and operational oversight and supporting the Manager of the Day (MOD), site teams and clinical teams on the Stoke site during peak times.
The right candidate will be a proactive and visible leader, who can inspire teams to perform highly and take them on the journey of improvement to deliver the very best care possible for patients. Positive Leadership traits and values are highly important for this post, as is an astute operational and credible leader.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be operationally responsible for 2 dynamic workstreams supporting the Surgery and Critical Care Group:
(1) Lead the day to day busy operations for the WESC site, this includes everything from, ensuring theatres start on time, supporting wards teams to run efficiently and work with MDT colleagues to ensure staffing is safe across the site. Also being the responsible officer to drive efficiency and productivity via transformation and quality improvement programmes, in line with national standards including working to GIRFT principles, is a key part of this role. Reporting to the Care Group Director, support the annual business planning rounds and strategy development to improve access to prompt surgical interventions, reduce the elective backlog and ensuring the very best quality outcomes are achieved.
(2) The other key workstream is to support the emergency pathways for surgical services on the stoke site as and when required, working with teams to access prompt surgical pathways and ensure ED is flowing free and safely at all times. A critical part of this role will be to lead on, and with the GM for trauma and Orthopaedics and General Surgery, develop the winter plan for Trauma and emergency pathways to ensure safe and effective care is delivered despite the pressure that winter can bring.
