Job summary
The post requires a motivated and independent individual who has excellent interpersonal and organisation skills and who can work autonomously. The ability and willingness to travel across the Trust is required.
- Support the Head of Nursing to coordinate the SSI data collection, agenda setting and delivering improvements across the Trust
- Actively support a effective and efficient system for the prevention, investigation and surveillance of SSI throughout the Trust, and apply implementation strategies to overcome any barriers.
- Actively support the SSI Coordinator, IPC Team, and wider surgical pathway teams to deliver clinically driven, patient focussed, quality improvement projects, resources, network events and research for SSI within the Trust and externally.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work closely with the Head of Nursing and Matron on current and new developments in SSI surveillance, research and innovation, including product/project planning, data collection and collation, resource development, assisting in evaluating implementation strategies and dissemination, assisting in publication and/or contributing to the dissemination at networks and national/international conferences.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures and other documents for the SSI surveillance team
- To work within the directorate of infection and with the wider organisation in ensuring that the surveillance objectives set out in Health and Social Care Act 2022 are implemented and achieved.
- To use and develop information technologies to drive efficiencies and monitor and report the impact of measures to improve patient care and safety
- To provide infection prevention and control advice as part of 7 day working within IPC Team
- To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient-orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
- Acts as an expert SSIS resource for all staff at clinical level. Prioritise workload taking into account varying demands and resources.
- Identify problems related to the prevention of SSIs and be involved in developing improved methods of work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
