Job summary
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust are seeking a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to join our expanding anaesthetic department. This is a fixed-term expansion post for 12 months in the first instance to start as soon as possible to address the surgical backlog and optimise theatre capacity. This post has on-call responsibility for general anaesthetic and labour ward duties.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a split site NHS Trust which provides anaesthetic services at High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals. The successful applicant will be expected to work at both sites.
The Anaesthetic Department provides anaesthesia services to support General Surgery, Emergency Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT and Maxillo-Facial, Ophthalmics, Trauma and Orthopaedics (including spinal orthopaedics), Burns and Plastic Surgery, anaesthesia for spinal injury patients, Breast, Urology, Paediatric, ECT and Interventional Radiology.
The post is for 12 months and would be ideal for those just finishing their Specialist Training and looking for experience working as a Consultant. There are likely to be substantive consultant opportunities soon, and the department has a strong history of appointing locum consultants into substantive posts after appropriate application processes.
Main duties of the job
POST: (Include 'Generalist 'on-call commitment)
The successful post holder will be expected to work at both Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe hospitals to deliver Consultant level anaesthesia. This could include emergency, trauma, plastics trauma, ophthalmics, obstetrics, or anaesthesia for spinal injured patients on the SMH site, or anaesthesia for elective surgery, or pre-operative assessment on the Wycombe site for the specialties previously listed.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register. It is Trust policy that without CCT, an offer as Locum Consultant can be given for a 6 months fixed term contract, with possibility of it being extended for a further 6 months, but cannot go over 12 months in total.
