Job summary

The exciting opportunity has arisen for a role as Ward Administrator at Olympic Lodge in Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Olympic Lodge is a 22 bedded facility, supporting patients from across the Trust who are being supported with discharge planning needs.

You will work alongside the senior nursing team in undertaking and supporting administrative tasks and will be instrumental in ensuring effective communication across the nursing workforce. You will act as a key point of liaison within the ward for nursing staff and other internal and external health professionals as well as visitors and other members of the public.

You will be a excellent communicator with strong PC skills: You will be able to work both on your own initiative and within a team, organising and prioritising your own workload to achieve deadlines. You will already have significant experience in administrative duties in a busy environment with changing priorities.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as the focal point of administrative communications for the ward, taking all telephone enquiries and acting as initial point of contact for routine callers to ward.
  • Ensure that all callers and visitors are attended to courteously and promptly.
  • Enter basic patient data onto the computer/ book, especially admission, transfer and discharge details.
  • To prepare documentation admission and discharge packs for use by the nursing team.
  • Maintain inpatient notes on the ward in an organised and methodical manner, including printing patient front sheets and labels.
  • Ensure patient notes are sent for coding/scanning in a timely manner, and all activity is recorded on the computer system.
  • Dealing with in coming and out going post in a timely manner and ensure in coming post is distributed as required.
  • Update the staffing/ patient boards daily.
  • Ensure signage around the ward is up to date.
