Job summary
The Bladder and Bowel Nurse works as an integral part of the NSIC Bladder and Bowel specialist nursing team and as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
The post holder provides care and support to the person with Spinal Cord Injury (PwSCI) within care pathways ranging from point of referral through to ongoing care post discharge. A key element of this post is role-modelling best practice and providing education and support in the clinical setting.
A primary resource within the Bladder and Bowel team providing proactive nursing care and assessment to patients and assisting in education provision throughout the bladder and bowel management pathway.
Main duties of the job
- Proactively use knowledge and skills for assessing patients and their families and interpreting complex problems. Provide the appropriate level of intervention either as direct or indirect care, in collaboration with the CNS's and the multidisciplinary team.
- Support patients and their carer/s by supporting regular holistic assessment, participating in the goal planning process to promote timely intervention.
- To assist with a nurse-led follow up clinic for patients with Spinal Cord Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction, assessing patients and giving appropriate care and advice.
- To ensure all clinical practice is evidence based, drawing on published literature and policy guidelines.
- To be aware of the ethical and confidential issues in relation to Spinal Cord Injury Bladder and Bowel Management
