Job summary
Are you an experienced Band 5 staff nurse looking for a new direction in your career? Are you interested in ophthalmology? Stoke Mandeville Hospital dedicated ophthalmology in-patient ward which will complement our existing service.
We are currently seeking highly motivated, dynamic staff nurses who have an interest in ophthalmology to join our nursing team - no previous ophthalmology experience is necessary.
The role will include working alongside the ophthalmic nurse practitioners in the Ophthalmic casualty, looking after ophthalmology inpatients and some rotation to the ophthalmology outpatient department. You will be expected to deliver safe, high quality, compassionate care to our patients and assist the senior nursing team in providing innovative changes in service delivery. Main duties of the job
- Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, and within the principles of the scope of Professional Practice and ensures other members of the team also work within these
- Maintain professional working relationships with all members of the ophthalmology team and effectively contribute to the team's continual development
- Undertakes the nursing assessment of the patient including risk assessments e.g. Tissue viability, moving and handling and nutrition. Undertakes pre-operative assessment as necessary
- Devise a plan of nursing care based in the nursing assessment, taking into account the medical prescription
- Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives. Advise on health promotion and the prevention of illness.
