Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven pharmacist, to join our friendly patient focused team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. You will need to be motivated, organised, and willing to work as part of a team with a 'can-do' positive attitude.

No one ever wants to hear that they have cancer but now there are exciting new treatments that are really changing the pathways for so many of our patients.

To rise to this challenge, we are strengthening our cancer pharmacy team to deliver care to support our multi-disciplinary team. We are working with our clinical colleagues to improve the treatment pathways and have the opportunity to set up pharmacy and nursing led clinics for prescribing. We also have our own aseptic suite so we are able to provide new treatments quickly.

Looking after our patients is never dull, there is always a new treatment combination, clinical trial or new drug to be looked at or worked out so that patients can be treated.

Main duties of the job

  • To work collaboratively with senior pharmacy and medical staff, themultidisciplinary team and management representatives to achieve agreed objectives to promote and advance pharmacy services to cancer patients.
  • To provide clinical pharmacy input to consultant ward rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, prescribing meetings and any other areas as agreed with the Principal Pharmacist Cancer Services.
  • To provide a prescribing pharmacist role to cancer patients under thesupervision of the Lead Cancer Clinicians and Principal Pharmacist for Cancer Services.
  • To ensure safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of drugs inaccordance with Trust policy, standard operating procedures and medicines legislation.
  • To act as a diploma or pre-registration pharmacist tutor as required according to the needs of the department.
  • To participate in the set-up, maintenance and supervision of clinical cancer and haematology trials working closely with the Lead Pharmacist for Clinical Trials
  • To act as an educational supervisor for senior technical staff undertaking the pre and in process accuracy checking accreditation in aseptics.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacist on GPhC register.

Desirable

  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharmS) or equivalent professional body (BOPA etc)
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinically-based pharmacy or recognised equivalent
  • First line management course
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience as a hospital pharmacist
  • Delivery of pharmacy services to a range of specialities
  • Delivery of a pharmacy service to a specialist level in oncology / haematology
  • Delivery of a pharmacy aseptic manufacturing service
  • Evidence of significant relevant Continuing Professional Development
  • Experience of training & supervision of pharmacy staff within cancer

Desirable

  • Experience of project management, service implementation or redesign
  • Experience in preregistration training
  • Experience of line managing pharmacy staf
