This is a full-time post and the successful individual will join existing consultant to provide leadership support to run a busy Unit. The post comprises 10 programmed activities (PA's).

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 19 Consultants and this is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and dedicated team providing first class care to our patient population You will be joining a unit with up to 5500 deliveries per annum and will be expected to provide consultant level care to complex antenatal patients and offer a service for acute and elective Obstetrics. As a part of the team you will contribute to supporting and developing the service working closely with the existing consultant team. There is a dedicated gynaecology component within this job and evidence of operating on benign gynaecology procedure will be desirable, however based on skills set candidates opting for pure obstetric job can be accommodated.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have experience in Obstetrics and gynaecology with an interest in labour ward leadership. They may also have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department. The purpose of this post is to provide strong professional clinical leadership on Delivery Suite to ensure excellence in care provision which is responsive to women and their family's needs.
The post holder will be expected to be responsible for the running of labour ward, supporting multi-professional training, ensuring guidance is up to date, supporting the patient safety team, implementing QI and ensuring we adhere to national standards and supporting the Maternity Incentive Scheme.
Bucks NHS Hospital have adopted Physiological CTG interpretation as well as integrating Human Factors into all our training as well as on the shop floor. The post holder will be working closely with our Maternity Training lead delivering PROMPT and simulation. The post holder will be expected to be actively involved in supporting the delivery of the clinical governance aspects of the directorate and the trust including risk management and quality improvement.
This is a new post following a review of the service needs in light of recent published Maternity Safety Reports.
Consultant antenatal clinics are undertaken at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and Wycombe Hospitals Midwifery clinics are held in several additional community settings.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 16 Consultants and this is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and dedicated team providing first class care to our patient population.
The post holder will lead and develop fertility services and join an established consultant team with a wide range of gynaecology and obstetrics specialist skills. The post has significant gynaecology component in job plan and involves non-resident on call. There would be scope to expand the fertility services with an expectation to develop satellite IVF service and support with developing in areas of reproductive medicine like endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage and pelvic pain. Advanced laparoscopic skills would be beneficial.

To undertake general duties associated with a post in obstetrics, including labour ward sessions, antenatal clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, support general gynaecology clinics and Gynaecology operating relevant to skills
Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy.
Develop the Obstetrics service by working closely with other colleagues to standardise pathways of care.
Co-chair the labour ward forum as well as evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the Obstetrics service.
working closely with our PDM Team in delivering training to both Obstetricians and Midwives.
Work collaboratively with the inpatient matron and the Obstetric Lead in improving flow through the unit.
Provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.
To be fully involved with the teaching and training of medical staff within the Department and to work closely with the RCOG College Tutor in this respect. To take part in the induction programme for junior medical staff and to participate in GP training. To participate in the teaching of medical students.
