Job summary

I am delighted to be bringing this opportunity foran experienced midwife to join us at Buckinghamshire Healthcare as Director of Midwifery.

Our current Director of Midwifery is moving on to be the Deputy Chief Nurse for the ICB and will be leaving a great legacy and team.

This role is integral to the maternity services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare. The post holder will provide senior, credible professional advice and support to the Chief Nurse and midwives across the Trust, leading and providing strategic oversight and expert advice for midwifery services, acting as a role model for the profession both internally and externally.

The post holder must have demonstrable experience in leading teams,and managing governance and quality oversight to ensure delivery of the three-year delivery plan for maternity and neonatal services.

As a skilled negotiator, they will influence clinical and professional leaders internally and externally to ensure that our birthing people are cared for effectively and efficiently. In addition to leading people with compassion, the workforce is fit for purpose both today and in the future.

You will have good communication skills to be able to contribute across the organisation and integrated care system.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide highly visible and accessible senior leadership advice and support to all staff on issues relating to safe and compassionate midwifery care, acting as the Trust lead.
  • Provide leadership on quality and patient safety improvement activities to improve person-centred outcomes, reduce unwarranted variation, and eliminate avoidable harm.
  • Production of authoritative, concise and professional reports or briefings to assist the Trust Executive's appropriate decision-making.
  • Lead the development and application of midwifery risk and governance systems, control processes and risk management arrangements that ensure full compliance with internal and external governance and best practice requirements.
  • Oversee the management of all resources for midwifery services, staff and budgets to ensure that expenditure and income are within budget and to ensure compliance with Trust financial protocols.
