Job summary
Physiotherapy is an integral part of the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury. Support workers within the physiotherapy team are essential members delivering this service, providing administrative and clinical support to the physiotherapists, preparing patients before and after treatment sessions.
Thispost involves working alongside physiotherapists with patients following spinal cord injury within an aquatic therapy and gym environment, providing support aligned to Buckinghamshire Healthcare values of Collaborate, Aspire, Respect and Enable.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is essential and previous employment within the NHS is desirable. A commitment to working in this post for a minimum of 1 year is sought. The post is not suitable for qualified physiotherapists.
Opportunities for training and development are available through in service training and appraisal.
Main duties of the job
- To participate in identified departmental shared duties and responsibilities.
- To take patients to and from appropriate locations, as instructed by the qualified Physiotherapists.
- To undertake manual handling techniques involving patients and/or equipment following appropriate training in line with organisational manual handling policy.
- To assist qualified therapy staff in the preparation of patients pre and post Aquatic Therapy treatment.
- To provide personal care to spinal cord injury patients as required during Aquatic Therapy sessions, e.g. showering, emptying leg bags or assisting with toileting.

Essential
- Good level of education to GCSE standard. (at least 3 subjects)
- Level 3 GCSE or equivalent in English
Desirable
- NVQ level I, II or III in Health Care

EXPERIENCE

- Able to accept and undertake responsibility for designated tasks.

- 6 months experience within a customer care (face to face) environment.
