Job summary

The National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville isdedicated to the treatment of individuals with spinal cord injury. Physiotherapists are part of the enthusiastic and well-motivated inter-disciplinary team involved in all aspects of lifelong management from the acute stage through rehabilitation and post discharge.

An opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapist with interest and experience in neurological physiotherapy seeking to develop their skills in spinal cord injury physiotherapy rehabilitation to join the team at the NSIC. They will be responsible for their own caseload of patients and provideliaison and communication with other members of the interdisciplinary team within and external to the NSIC supporting progression of patients through rehabilitation. They will be active keyworkers in the NSIC and support the goals of both the physiotherapy service and the NSIC.

Weekend and on call working are requirements of this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To participate within the National Spinal Cord Injury Centre clinical and interdisciplinary team and contribute to its function.
  • To undertake assessments of spinal cord Injury patients with complex and diverse presentations.
  • To undertake advanced, comprehensive, and where applicable,standardised assessments within the spinal cord injury team.
  • To use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice to determine treatment plan using a wide range of treatment skills and options.
  • To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to form an accurate diagnosis in a wide range of conditions presenting in patients with spinal cord injury, under guidance from specialist Physiotherapists.
  • To demonstrate highly developed assessment and therapeutic skillsnecessary for the treatment of spinal cord Injury patients.
  • To use knowledge to formulate problem lists and decide subsequenttreatments, goal plans and selection of outcome measures.
  • To determine the most appropriate setting for assessment and or treatment e.g. department, ward, clinic, community.

  • HCPC Registration
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Attendance at post graduate courses in related fields
  • Member of professional special interest group

Desirable

  • Member of MASCIP
  • CSP membership

Experience

  • Minimum of 24 months relevant post registration working experience as physiotherapist
  • Experience of a broad rotational scheme
  • Experience of working with patients with neurological and/or respiratory presentations
