We are looking for highly motivated, energetic, experienced and enthusiastic nurses to join our expanding Intensive Care nursing team. Due to increased funding, we have Band 6 deputy sister/charge nurse posts available on our Stoke Mandeville Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Our Intensive Care Units have 12 beds at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, which admits medicine/ surgical/ burns/ spinal/ trauma patients, and a 6 bedded ICU at Wycombe Hospital caring for medicine/ cardiology/ stroke and surgical patients. All our staff work cross site between the 2 Intensive Care Units.

Main duties of the job

Actively participate in the delivery of patient and family care, and act as a specialist clinical resource to the nursing and medical team, and other hospital departments and services.
On a shift-to-shift basis supervise and co-ordinate effective planning, delivery, evaluation and monitoring of care carried out on the Unit for all patients, with due regard to the BHT vision and CARE values
Ensure effective communication with patients and their relatives, keeping them informed of progress and treatment, and providing support as required.
Ensure nursing care is delivered in accordance with the Trust ICU policies, procedures and guidelines, NMC Code of Conduct and the additional Standards of Care.
Co-ordinate and actively participate in safe and effective intra and inter-hospital transport of patients.
Accurately interpret the significance of the patient's clinical signs, recognises the limitations of own sphere of responsibility and promptly refers patient to appropriate personnel.
