Job summary

We are excited to be offering an opportunity to join our Speech and Language Therapy service in Ipswich and East Suffolk. Our integrated SLT service in East Suffolk delivers inpatient, outpatient and community services, and this role affords the opportunity to rotate through all service areas including acute inpatients, stroke (including ESD), ENT, community, and with adults with learning disability. It offers an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated clinician to join our innovative and friendly team based in Ipswich and East Suffolk. We provide videofluoroscopy and FEES assessments to inpatients, outpatients and our community caseloads. Our department sits within the Integrated Therapies division and therefore have excellent links to our MDT colleagues, including shared CPD opportunities. All teams are supported by our SLT apprentices and assistants.

The service champions research, innovation and development. We are proud to support members of the team undertaking research fellowships and engage in quality improvement projects such as implementing EMST. The Trust is committed to developing leadership skills for staff at all levels.

Main duties of the job

  • The purpose of this post is to provide a service to adults with communication and swallowing disorders arising from a range of conditions including stroke and degenerative disorders. This includes speech therapy assessment and interventions for patients in inpatient, outpatient and community settings, including direct 1:1 support, groups, devising therapy plans for assistants, and training/ education to staff and family.
  • This is a rotational post, and the post holder will be based in either Ipswich hospital or Allington clinic, with expectation to travel whilst working in community rotations, necessitating lone working and travel between places of work across East Suffolk.
  • The successful applicant will be well supported to develop their skills across a range of communication and swallowing disorders. We have an established preceptorship scheme and support newly qualified therapists to develop their dysphagia competencies and achieve their newly qualified competencies. We hold monthly communication therapy support sessions, and monthly CPD meetings to share learning.
