Job summary
We are inviting applications for a full time, Locum Consultant in Oculoplastic Ophthamology based at Ipswich Hospital.
This is a 9 month fixed term post ending 31st October 2026 to cover maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to:
- Take his/her share of the consultant clinical responsibilities within the department, including managing junior doctors within the Acute Referral department and develop the oculoplastic service.
- The precise allocation of session time will be agreed with consultant colleagues, but there will be 8.5 clinical sessions of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA for professional development and appraisal (10 PA total)
- Provide cover for colleagues during leave and other authorised absences.
- The applicant will be expected to join the on call consultant rota and paid a supplement for this.

- Full GMC with a license to practice
- FRCOphth or Equivalent
- Success in Intercollegiate Speciality Examination or Overseas Equivalent
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in relevant specialty
- Ability to offer expert opinion in oculoplastic management
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care in patients with eye casualty conditions
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service. Including managing 2 week wait for skin cancers
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
- Experience of managing junior doctors
- Ability to work in a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies

- Fellowship in Oculoplastics
- Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, special surgery business unit, and working parties as appropriate
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research
