Trust Registrar in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Job summary

The Trauma Registrar will have the principle responsibility of supporting the orthopaedic team. Additionally the post-holder will take part in the out of hour's rota. Responsibilities will include involvement in a regular teaching programme as well as participating in weekly meetings and monthly audit meetings.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder's clinical duties will include, care of ward patients, all aspects of elective orthopaedic trauma, admission and primary care of emergencies, attending the operating theatre for trauma and elective lists and have the opportunity for clinical research. The post-holder will also participate in the departments full shift rota.

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • At least 24 months' experience (at CT/ST1/CT/ST2 level) in surgery (not including Foundation modules)
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need
  • Demonstrates appropriate technical and clinical competence and evidence of the development of diagnostic skills and clinical judgement
  • ATLS or equivalent
  • Basic Surgical Skills Course

Desirable

  • Up to a maximum of 36 months experience in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery
  • At least 8 months periods of experience in two related specialities: e.g. acute general surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, intensive care medicine or Accident and emergency medicine (including Foundation Years training)
  • AO Basic Course or a Generic Course on fracture management
  • Evidence of a well-defined career plan for Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery
