Job summary
We are inviting applicants to apply for the Senior Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Ipswich Hospital. This is post is for period of 12 months, extendable to 18 to 24 depending on needs, performance and availability.
The post would be ideally suited to an orthopaedic or neurosurgical trainee after the end of their training with a specialist interest in spinal surgery techniques and complex spinal reconstruction.
This post is to start as soon as possible.
Main duties of the job
The post offers experience in all aspects of spinal surgery except paediatric deformity & intradural work.
The Senior Spine Fellow will have the opportunity to be involved in regular day case procedures, out-patient clinics and in-patient operating lists.
The Senior Spine Fellow will be responsible for supervising the regular review of the ward patients and admission of spinal emergencies from surrounding hospitals with the junior Fellows and Training Registrars.

- Supervised clinical activity within theatre of approximately 2-3 Full day sessions per week
- Supervised clinical activity within out-patient clinics of approximately 2-4 sessions per week
- Involvement in clinical teaching of ST/FY doctors and medical students
- Participation in assessment, appraisal and revalidation activity

- MRCS part 2 (UK) or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice

- Previous Registrar experience

- A confident person who has the ability to manage, motivate and teach the junior medical staff
- Capacity to manage time and prioritise workload, balance urgent & important demands, follow instructions
