The closing date is 26 August 2025

Job summary

This is a great opportunity for an experienced secretary looking to move into working in the very interesting and rewarding area of Oncology. We are seeking a highly motivated, committed and experienced Medical Personal Assistant to provide high quality administrative services to clinicians in the Oncology department at ESNEFT, based at the Colchester site. This post is fixed term / secondment until 31st March 2026. You will work 37.5 hours per week across 5 days Monday - Friday

You must have relevant qualifications and experience in providing a PA service within an NHS hospital setting, ideally with a background in Oncology or Haematology experience. For this post, you will have a flexible and professional approach. The key aspect of your role involves dealing with the public and professionals and hence you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for working independently and in a team providing a full range of secretarial and administrative support and therefore must be highly organised and show the ability to prioritise a busy workload.

Your duties will also include audio typing using the digital dictation system, monitoring of patients on an active cancer pathway, post cancer treatment, communicating with the wider clinical and administration teams, and dealing with telephone and email enquiries.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what's widely regarded as the world's best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.
