Junior Sister - Rushmere Medical Day Unit

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who would like the opportunity to step up into a band 6 junior sister position. You need to have proven acute experience and have effective communication skills. You will be required to have a 'can do' attitude, be proactive in nature and be able to foster exceptional working relationships with colleagues.

The Rushmere Medical Day Unit is a nurse led, elective care setting which treats patients from all specialties, currently treating up to 30 patients per day. Such procedures undertaken on the Unit consist of a variety of infusions, endocrine tests, biopsies, chest drains, paracentesis, lumbar punctures, transoesophageal echocardiograms, stress echos and venesections. The OPAT service is also linked to Rushmere, the successful applicant will be trained in this area, to enable annual leave cover for this service.

We are offering the opportunity to work with a highly dedicated, hardworking team of nurses, health care assistants and an admission coordinator. You must be able to work as part of a team as well as work independently.

We will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in line with the speciality care provided on the Unit.

The unit is open Monday to Friday 08:00-20:00. The position is for 23.6 hours rostered over various shift times.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that safe, effective and holistic patient care is delivered.

Be responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care in partnership with patient, carers and consultants.

Accurately observe patient's condition and initiate appropriate action.

Administer medication safely to patients, including IV and cytotoxic drugs using evidence based guidelines.

Undertake evidence based care for a variety of indwelling central venous catheters.

Maintain accurate, timely patient records and relevant data collection.

Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and all members of the multi professional team

Participate in patient/carer education e.g. advice about patient's condition/needs, health promotion in particular in relation to endocrine conditions.

To safely use clinical equipment relevant to own work area.

Order investigations and blood tests within scope of practice.

Undertake venepuncture and cannulation plus any specialist clinical skills such as venesection which are required by the area.
