East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust

Assistant Practitioner - Surgical Assessment Unit

The closing date is 18 May 2025

Job summary

We are looking for a compassionate and committed Assistant Practitioner to join our team on the Surgical Assessment Ward at Ipswich Hospital.

You will be required to have the relevant Qualifications. This is a fast paced environment with constant opportunities for you to learn and develop your skills.

The Surgical Assessment Ward consists of an assessment unit and ward area with an assessment room and short stay surgical inpatient beds. This is an exciting time to join as the surgical assessment unit has recently undergone a refurbishment.

The unit is part of the same day emergency care (SDEC) programme where we deliver rapid assessment of patients including diagnostic and treatment without being admitted to a ward. They can then go home on the same day if it is clinically safe to do so.

If you are a practitioner who is open to the challenges brought about by change and who is committed to creative partnerships we want to hear from you. You will need to be responsive to the fluctuating demands typical of the assessment unit environment and show a willingness to undertake extended roles.

We are looking for an individual who is keen to develop and deliver excellent clinical care. You must be motivated to drive forward and improve the services for the population of Ipswich and surrounding area. In turn, we are keen to give you the opportunity to develop your skills whilst supporting you in your career development.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will work alongside Registered Nurses in undertaking nursing assessments and an agreed range of clinical activities. You will work as a member of the ward team, establishing effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality care for our patients, families and carers. For this role you will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to remain professional under pressure.

A few duties include (but not exclusive to): performing venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs, female catheterisation; taking MRSA swabs; clinical observations; completing admission paperwork and escorting patients to other departments and wards.
