Job summary

The Haematology laboratory at Colchester is looking for an enthusiastic, and well-motivated person to join the team as a Biomedical Scientist. You must have a HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

You will join the team of rotating Biomedical Scientist staff, contributing to all areas of Haematology laboratory diagnostic work and developing a broad range of skills.

You will join a friendly, busy department who have a close working relationship with our clinical consultant staff. We are MHRA compliant and UKAS accredited.

The Haematology Department has Sysmex XN 2000 and Werfen ACL TOP 550 analysers. The Blood Transfusion Department has the Grifols Erytra blood grouping system. Our LIMS system is Clinisys WinPath Enterprise

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake testing and processing of biomedical specimens, analysis and entering of results onto the compute
  • To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 days per week service
  • Supervises and/or trains less experienced staff in own area of work and competency
  • The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions
  • Maintain and promote professional image of the Pathology Department
