An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Gynaecology/Oncology Nurse Specialist based in the Ipswich Hospital & within the specialist gynaecological cancer centre. The centre provides complex surgery to women from across Essex & Suffolk working with Colchester & Chelmsford hospitals as part of the Anglia Cancer Alliance.

You will work within a well-established multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide support to women undergoing all areas of diagnostics, diagnosis, treatment & follow-up. You will act as a keyworker to patients, families & carers & liaise with a wide range of health & social care on behalf of them & the MDT.

The role will require you to work autonomously although close support of the MDT will mean you are able to act as the patients support & advocate. You will be expected to develop both self & the service with the support of the Lead CNS.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide support & co-ordination of the cancer pathway for patients, carers & families by acting as a keyworker. Be a link between patients & all areas of the cancer pathway.

    To provide specialist preadmission for complex cancer surgery

    To provide specialist care in outpatient clinics & inpatient areas to co-ordinate care & be an expert resource & key worker

    To participate in MDT meetings as a patient advocate & as an integral part of the wider gynaecological cancer team

    To develop cancer services in line with local & national policy
