Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Gynaecology/Oncology Nurse Specialist based in the Ipswich Hospital & within the specialist gynaecological cancer centre. The centre provides complex surgery to women from across Essex & Suffolk working with Colchester & Chelmsford hospitals as part of the Anglia Cancer Alliance.

You will work within a well-established multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide support to women undergoing all areas of diagnostics, diagnosis, treatment & follow-up. You will act asa keyworker to patients, families & carers & liaise with a wide range of health & social care on behalf of them & the MDT.

The role will require you to work autonomously although close support of the MDT will mean you are able to act as the patients support & advocate. You will be expected to develop both self & the service with the support of the Lead CNS.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that a co-ordinated, comprehensive and cost effective service is provided for patients with gynaecological cancer
  • To co-ordinate gynaecological cancer patients having complex surgery from pre-admission, inpatient stay, to outpatient follow up. To provide specialist preadmission & attend anaesthetic review clinics working closely with the named gynaecology/oncology anaesthetic team
  • Working with the MDT assist in maintaining effective, streamlined and efficient care for cancer patients under the care of ESNEFT
  • To provide a highly developed standard of specialist care, knowledge, advice, information and education underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience to patients, carers, healthcare professionals and relevant others
  • To implement quality initiatives as part of the audit process to evaluate standards of care and service delivery within the nursing team and when appropriate the multidisciplinary tea
  • To provide high quality care to patients under the care of Ipswich gynaecology cancer centre & the wider cancer network
