Job summary

The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is seeking to recruit a Data Analyst who will deliver impactful analytical products as part of an analytical service to the Trust's clinicians and operational staff.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to help build the Trusts' data science capabilities and drive the way the Trust uses analytics to improve operational performance and patient care.

You will be part of the Business Informatics Team who focus on providing analysis to help the Trust become an insight-driven organisation and to enable it to self-serve its data needs.

We are looking for an analyst with strong technical skills in managing data and working with data warehouse environments, developing business intelligence products (including interactive visual reports), data modelling, and producing analysis using statistical software (e.g. R and Python).

The Data Analyst will use their technical skills to implement statistical analysis, develop simulation models, data visualisation, and automated reporting solutions.

Previous experience of the NHS is desirable but not essential. However, you will be highly numerate, an excellent problem solver, a logical thinker, and comfortable communicating analysis.

Main duties of the job

  • To work with the Head of Analytics to provide analysis of complex data sets, developing specialist analytics skills to min, analyse and model data to provide specialist advice to the wider Trust and develop the Business Informatics Team's data science capabilities.
  • Provide a specialist analytics business intelligence function to operational and clinical colleagues across the Trust, producing analysis and visual reports that meets the analytical needs of end users of Trust data, communicating analysis with clarity and impact.
  • Provide specialist knowledge and practice skills in the implementation of analytical techniques (including statistical analysis, predictive modelling and forecasting, and mining of data) to support Business Informatics colleagues deliver an effective business intelligence function to the Trust.

In line with our current home working policy, working time will be split between Trust sites, with a significant proportion of time spent working from home. We are all working flexibly from home during the current restrictions, and interviews will be conducted online via Microsoft Teams.

  • Attending meetings with information users, as required, to present data verbally and graphically giving interpretation of the reliability, accuracy and trends demonstrated.
  • To proactively support the Head of Analytics in promoting the use of analytics across the trust.

  • To support the Head of Analytics in monitoring data quality and accuracy issues.

Information management and provision

  • To play a hands-on role in production of business intelligence information as required, ensuring that the team meets all requests for information for a range of situations.
  • To provide specialist support and advice to ad hoc requesters of analysis, in developing suitable report formats to meet their requirements.
  • Communicating analytical/statistical data to non-statistical professionals. Identifying areas and opportunities for improvement.
  • To work with the Head of Analtyics and wider team to ensure that information recipients are provided with the appropriate support to facilitate the use and interpretation of analysis.
  • To ensure that all deadlines for own workplan, either routine or ad-hoc, are met. Plan, organise and adjust where appropriate, activities/programmes to meet customers requirements, highlighting issues arising with line manager (prior to deadlines).

Developing, maintaining and running of information

  • To ensure that written documentation exists, and is maintained for any processes for which the post holder is routinely responsible, or has developed.
  • To provide specialist training in own discipline/share skills in this area with other team members as necessary in order to ensure there is appropriate cover for absence at all times, and to provide cover for absent colleagues as necessary (staff will be part of an annual leave matrix, to ensure there is appropriate cover at all times)
  • To work with other members of the Business Informatics Team to implement changes to the routine information processes as required to improve accuracy/ efficiency.
