Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term post to cover maternity leave in our supportive and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy team at Ipswich Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. You will be responsible for seeing adults admitted to Ipswich Hospital on our acute wards, who require assessment and management of dysphagia and communication difficulties.

We would like to recruit someone who is passionate about delivering a quality, evidence-based service, who relishes working in a busy, acute setting and is a strong team player. We are looking for someone with excellent team working skills with both SLT colleagues and the wider MDT, as well as an ability to work independently and flexibly. We are seeking a band 6 SLT, but we are open to applicants with less experience who could be employed with us as a band 5 too.

Whilst this role will initially be until November 2024, there is a possibility that this could be extended.

Main duties of the job

The integrated Speech and Language Therapy service for Ipswich Hospital and East Suffolk has previously been the recipient of the Trust's 'Team of the Year' category at the staff awards, in recognition of our commitment to patient-centred care and staff development. We are an innovative integrated service, always focused on quality of care, and ready to incorporate new, evidence-based practice alongside our existing service offer. The service covers the full range of clinical specialisms, including aphasia, dysphagia, stroke, progressive neurological conditions, learning disability and ENT in both hospital and community settings. We provide videofluoroscopy and FEES assessments for both inpatients and outpatients. We are committed to CPD and staff resilience and wellbeing, with regular in-service meetings on a variety of clinical and wider topics.

You will be joining a team of almost 12,000 amazing colleagues providing care to approximately a million people.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (if applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services. We offer a range of flexible working opportunities.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which do not work or cause time delays for our staff and patients.
