Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Ipswich Hospital as Trust Registrar in Older Peoples Services (Geriatric and General Medicine) for a full time post.

We run a ward-based service which has allowed development of areas of expertise in the management of frail, complex elderly. The Constable Suite comprises Haughley and Grundisburgh wards which specialise in neurocognitive disorders and complex intermediate stay patients. These wards have been refurbished with bright colours, way finding, easy signage, mood lighting and removal of the nurse's station to provide a dementia friendly environment and extra facilities for end-of-life care and are recognised in the King's Fund Enhancing the Healing Environment project.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with an older people services Consultant, managing 28 patients on one of the Older Peoples Wards (Waveney ward). You will be supported by two FY2 doctors, and will supervise these juniors, using your clinical judgment and experience to escalate more complex patients for management under the guidance and instruction of the Ward Consultant. This will involve a daily consultant led board round, weekly MDT meeting and monthly clinical governance meeting. The post holder will be expected to provide appropriate clinical leadership to the progressive, innovative multidisciplinary ward team, supporting the ward consultant and working closely the ward sister and nursing team to deliver excellent clinical care.

This post is integrated with other Older People's Services including Community Hospitals and at times your role will also include sessions in the frailty assessment base, falls clinic and other older people's wards.
