To enable us to maintain our commitment to high qualify patient focused care, we are seeking to recruit a Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner who will work in Colchester Hospital's busy, but well organised, Theatre Recovery Department.
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic qualified individual to help manage our increasing activity. In our progressive, supporting and forward thinking team you will be supported in your continual professional development.
Main duties of the job
Working in our recovery team, you will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, both adult and paediatric. You will provide dedicated nursing intervention to ensure safe and effective post-anaesthetic and post-operative care.
We currently run elective lists in Vascular, ENT, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Paediatric General and ENT surgery as well as a busy Obstetric department.
To join our friendly recovery team you will need to be proactive, forward thinking and organised as well as professional, passionate and supportive. In addition you will need to be flexible, as the staff work internal rotation to nights and weekends. You will need to either be: NMC registered (RN1) or HCPC registered.

- Ensure safe discharge of patients to the wards by adhering to the Recovery Discharge Criteria.
- As a member of the multi-professional team, the post-holder is responsible for promoting high standards of post-anaesthetic and post-operative individualised nursing care to enhance the patients surgical experience.
- Provide support and supervision to more junior members of staff.
- Create an environment that is both safe and conducive to healing and learning.
- Utilise resources available effectively and to be accountable for decisions made in accordance with Unit and Trust protocol.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge through training and development required to achieve competent practice.
- Having completed the Recovery core stage Continuing Professional Development Programme, the post-holder will work towards undertaking Out-of-Hours duties, working consistently and autonomously within the role of providing Recovery Care that actively contributes to the hospital emergency service.
