Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Viral Hepatitis Nurse Specialist. This post is part time 22.5 hours per week to be worked over 3 week days. The days of the week can be discussed at interview.

This is an exciting venture as we are in the process of expanding the out-reach treatment service to patients within four local prisons in Suffolk and Essex.

We are looking for an experienced Hepatology/Gastroenterology nurse to join us in managing and treating Viral Hepatitis and patients with liver disease within Suffolk, North East Essex and their local prison populations.

Our department provides a dedicated Viral Hepatitis Service including Nurse led clinics to manage on-going treatment and care. The immediate core team consists of Consultant Hepatologists, Nurse Specialists, Support Nurses, Pharmacist and secretarial support. The service is forward thinking and continually seeks to develop new innovative models of care to ensure that patients with Viral Hepatitis are provided with ongoing, consistent and timely treatment.

You should have experience of working on your own initiative and prioritising workload as well as having excellent communication skills.

We welcome applicants who do not currently fulfil the full person specification for a band 7 but are motivated and enthusiastic nurses with recent Hepatology/Gastroenterology experience and will be considered for a Band 6 developmental role. This would be assessed as part of the interview process.

Main duties of the job

Our service is the only treatment centre in Suffolk and North East Essex providing this clinical service. We also have various new outreach clinics throughout the region, providing specialist treatment and care for patients. We are part of the Eastern Hepatitis Network Operational Delivery Network. We expect the number of patients requiring treatment to grow, which will expand this essential service.

In this role you will support a nurse led outreach service to manage and treat viral hepatitis patients within Suffolk, North East Essex and the local prison population.

You will manage a nursing caseload of viral hepatitis patients undergoing anti-viral therapy and post treatment as necessary - working with the inter-disciplinary team to facilitate care.

Please be aware that you will be expected to use your own car to attend each outreach site on a regular basis. Expenses will be paid for petrol as per conditions set out within the hospital policy for reimbursement of travel costs.
