Job summary

We are looking for a vibrant, confident person to join our Cancer Hub at Colchester General Hospital to help delivera high quality service

We need key staff, with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

You must have basic keyboard skills andhave a clear and confident telephone manner. Ideally, you will have previous experience in a similar environment within an NHS setting.

Main duties of the job

You will need to have excellent organisational skills as this is a fast paced environment to work in.

You will need to have the ability to work on your own initiative and you must be able to remain calm in difficult situations.

Patients who are invited to attend these appointmentsmay be anxious about a cancer diagnosis and may be tearful, distressed, upset and/or angry and you need to be able to listen and deal with their enquiry politely and efficiently.

You will be required to work within timed pathways and comply with national and local waiting time targets.

Main duties will include processing of cancer referrals sent into the Trust by GP's & booking urgent new appointments in accordance with the timeframes set out within the National Cancer Waiting Times Guidance.

You will be responsible for contacting patients by telephone to invite them to urgent appointments within the next 14 days.

Desirable

  • Escalation of capacity issues to those at Service Management level

Qualifications

  • GCSE in English and Maths - least C grade

Desirable

  • Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g. NVQ in administration/ECDL or similar)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Previous knowledge of hospital work and systems
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and data protection issues
  • Knowledge of the pressures the NHS as a whole is currently facing, in particular Cancer Services
