Our theatre suites comprise of 17 day case and inpatient theatres, including dedicated emergency & trauma theatres and 2 obstetric theatres. One inpatient theatre is a hybrid vascular theatre used for vascular & interventional radiological procedures, a new state of the art robotic system for abdominal & pelvic surgery and 3 theatres are integrated for Laparoscopic use. You will receive excellent in-house training to support all areas of working across Anaesthetics & Surgery, including to cover all cardiac & trauma calls, and out of hospital transfers for critically ill patients.
This opportunity offers ongoing professional development to practice and advance your theatre knowledge and skills beyond your current boundaries of practice to become a multi-skilled Theatre practitioner. You will have opportunities to receive in-house continued clinical skills training and interpersonal skills workshops. We aim to have a multi-skilled workforce with skills in anaesthetics and scrub.

Main duties of the job
As a member of the theatre team, you will provide and maintain the highest possible standard of patient care, developing good theatre management, communication and organisational skills. You will work within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure excellent professional relationships.
Amongst other duties, as part of this role, you will prepare the anaesthetic room and/or operating theatre for the operating sessions. You will also liaise with the wards to ensure patients are prepared for theatre in reasonable time. To ensure high quality care, you will assess the patient's needs and develop, implement and evaluate the provision of an integrated care pathway.
The surgical division have developed opportunities to train as a Surgical Care Practitioner across the various surgical specialities and Physician's Assistant in Anaesthesia within the Anaesthetic & Technical Services Division. A wide range of CPD modules at BSc and MSc Levels prospects are also possible from our strong links with Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Suffolk, and the University of Essex.

- Following completion of an induction /orientation period, undertake the full range of duties appropriate to their work allocation without supervision and in accordance with applicable professional bodies code of practice.
- Ensure all patients receive the highest standard of care under pinned by with evidence-based practice.

- Take part in internal rotation through all areas of the department as required to meet the needs of the service on 24hour basis.

- Confirm the content and order of the operating list, in conjunction with the wards, Duty Matron, Bed Manager, HDU/ITU as appropriate.
- Liaise with the wards to ensure patients are prepared for theatre in reasonable time
- Ensure the patient is sent for at the appropriate time and receive them into the department, confirming that their consent form, blood results, x-rays and other relevant paperwork are up-to-date and present
- Assess the patients care needs, and develop, implement and evaluate the provision of an integrated care pathway
- Promote a high quality of patient care in the most efficient and safe manner to comply with Directorate specific and Trust-wide policies and procedures and practice guidelines
- Provide skilled support throughout the perioperative period
- Assist in the safe transfer and positioning of patients between the anaesthetic room/theatre/recovery
- Provide skilled assistance when participating in the administration of infusions, drugs, blood, blood products
- Prepare portable monitoring and resuscitation equipment for and assist with the transfer of patients from theatres to High Dependency / Intensive Therapy Units, following anaesthetic intervention
- Act as patient advocate during the peri-operative phase, ensuring their dignity is maintained
