Job summary
Band 6 -7 Developmental Role for Acute Speech & Language Therapist
We are very excited to have been given new funding to recruit into our growing team of acute therapists. You will be expected to work through competencies for VFS and MSBSIMPs and tracheostomy and will be supported by a group of very experienced clinicians who are passionate about improving the welfare of patients on our wards who have communication, swallowing and or airway difficulties.
Our team is very friendly and proactive and we are happy to field any informal visits and or enquiries about this new vacancy.
Main duties of the job
- Provide highly specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and appropriate intervention for inpatients with subsequent dysphagia and communication problem
- Be a specialist clinician for Videofluroscopy Examination
- Provide leadership to junior staff managing acute wards and manage and advise clinical lead re capacity and demand

Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent.
- Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice and current registration.
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (R.C.S.L.T.)
- Evidence of reaching recognised post graduate dysphagia competency and or equivalent experiential competence and proven years' experience
- Experiential learning necessary to demonstrate highly specialist skills of acute dysphagia and VFS caseload
Desirable
- Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Acquired service)
Experience

- Proven years post graduate experience within care group
- Experience of delivering training to other Speech and Language Therapists, carers and other professionals.
- Experience in supervising SLT staff.

- Ability to deal with episodes of challenging behaviour including physical and verbal aggression and apply appropriate management techniques.
- Ability to use Word, PowerPoint, e-mail, Excel and Access (or similar spreadsheet or database packages
