Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Trauma and Orthopaedic Physiotherapist based at Ipswich Hospital, which is part of the East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust.

You will be jointly responsible, alongside the Occupational Therapist Team Lead, for leading the Trauma and Orthopaedic Integrated Therapy Team. You will be responsible for supervision, training, line management of staff, and the day to day running of the team.

The role will include audit and service development of the Physiotherapy and Integrated Therapy services within Trauma and Electives, predominantly leading the trauma side. You will be required to work closely with our Orthopaedic and Orthogeriatric Consultants.

You will be expected to work across the seven day service and may need to work extended days.

In 2024 elective orthopaedic surgical services will transfer to our brand new state-of-the-art specialist centre for elective orthopaedics at Colchester Hospital.

This role will be subject to a formal staff consultation process during 2023. Opportunities will exist for you within the organsiation if you choose not to move to the new centre.

Main duties of the job

To work in close communication with the musculoskeletal physiotherapy team, undertaking the team leader role in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the physiotherapy service provided to trauma and orthopaedic wards on a day-to-day basis.

To take the lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of the patients within the speciality, and act as a resource of expertise on the management of orthopaedic patients throughout the Trust.

To take responsibility for all Therapies staff working in the trauma and orthopaedic environment, providing clinical and professional leadership, and ensuring evidence based practice and quality of service provided.

To be the physiotherapy lead within trauma and orthopaedics, contributing to the achievement of service objectives, development of the service and to facilitate change where necessary.

  • Evidence of working within the acute hospital setting as a qualified physiotherapist in a range of clinical areas including in Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Significant experience working within an integrated therapy team and as part of MDT.
  • Evidence of appraisal, supervision and teaching of junior staff, assistants and students including formal clinical educator training.
  • Demonstrates evidence of ability to identify service improvements and priorities.
  • Co-ordination of in-service training and development of teaching programmes.
