Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Urology Diagnostic Nursing Team at Colchester Hospital.

The urology nurse practitioner is an expert surgical nurse who practices autonomously working to provide a specialised nursing service and co-ordinate patient pathways as part of the Multi-Disciplinary team for inpatient and outpatients in uro-oncology, benign prostatic disease and stones.

You will work to facilitate the pathway of care for urology patients; ensuring prompt assessment and investigations are completed, working in collaboration with the nursing, allied health professional and medical teams.

Using professional knowledge and expertise to identify blocks within the system; recommend solutions and implement change.

We would consider a Band 6 developmental role for applicants who do not currently fulfil the specification for a Band 7.

You should posses recent urology nursing experience with a strong motivation and dedication to developing yourself and the service.

This post is full time for a fixed term period of 12 months to cover maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

Use clinical expertise and collaborative working to review urology services and make recommendations for improvement.

Develop and support professional relationships within the urology service and with other disciplines, departments and external agencies.

Implement appropriate escalation plans to senior clinicians or management team.

Participate in Consultant ward rounds, expedite investigations and ensure patients are on the most appropriate treatment pathway.

To initiate, manage and co-ordinate nurse-led clinics including active surveillance of prostate cancer.

Work alongside other members of the MDT to deliver a smooth pathway for stone patients.

Performs initial assessment for patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms.

Acts as a coordinator for stone patients and ensures they are kept informed of their progress in their pathway.

Adopt different communication strategies, recognising that the complexities this role involves in communicating with a wide range of individuals and contexts.

Keep accurate and contemporaneous records in adherence with Trust Policy and Procedures.

To participate in multi-disciplinary education programmes and evaluate the performance of others
